The combination of an interest in textiles and a love for animals has helped me create my ‘Wool Paintings’.
Using mainly Merino wool, two felting techniques are used to make my paintings. Firstly the base is wet felted, this is the traditional method using soap, warm water and a little elbow grease! The next stage is to add the subject. For this I use the more modern felting technique of needle felting or dry felting. By using a barbed felting needle to blend the fibres, I am effectively painting with wool. The final stage is another wet felt, this is when the fibres can give unpredictable results, which helps give the animals their own unique character!
