I make both decorative and functional slipware, based on traditional earthenware vessels and country pottery with a contemporary unusual twist.
My work is wheel-thrown from red clay, often with added materials to give a varied texture. The pots are decorated with painted, glazed and Sgraffitto images drawn directly with a knife or paintbrush. Ideas are taken from my own sketches of back gardens, waste spaces and allotments. I love to draw the weeds and insects which share our spaces, both welcome and unwelcome. I learned to throw at Derby university and later acheived an MA in studio ceramics at Loughborough university. I have been working as a potter since 2009.
